Denise Rhew is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with twenty years of experience working with adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Her therapeutic style is honest, compassionate, strengths-based, and relationship-focused. She uses collaboration and humor to connect with clients and provides practical support to help clients address and overcome personal challenges.

Denise has a heart for working with women and men experiencing anxiety, grief, relational difficulties, and life transitions, as well as those seeking more purpose and connection in their lives. Her clients are often strong and capable, but just need a little guidance and direction to get them through a rough patch or a period of struggle. Denise creates a safe space for clients to process their feelings around painful experiences, identify where they can improve their relationships, and embrace the necessary changes to create a more meaningful and fulfilled life.

Denise is a highly trained and experienced marriage counselor. She works with couples who are just starting their lives together, those insecure about the future of their marriage, and committed couples that need to build better skills in communication and connection. Many times couples can recognize their part in conflict when discussing the situation calmly, yet in the heat of the moment, they react emotionally to their partner in a way that contradicts their true intentions and intensifies conflict. Denise helps couples recognize and heal these automatic reactions, handle conflict more productively, and create deeper attachments. She has a passion for helping the two individuals who form a couple as they face family of origin differences, infidelity, discord, or disconnection. Denise also offers Discernment Counseling as an alternative to traditional marriage counseling. This is a structured one-to-five session process that helps ambivalent couples decide if they want to stay together or end their marriage.

Denise has a deep respect for the sacred journey of parenting. She is a wonderful resource for parents as they work through their own challenges, doubts, and anxieties to pave the way for a strong, influential relationship with their kids. She understands that even the strongest and healthiest families struggle and need guidance and direction. Denise sees it as a great honor to support blended families as they navigate all the adjustments in forming a new family unit. Denise can be trusted to guide families through the most vulnerable issues to confidently get them back on track.

Denise earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Stephen F. Austin and her Master’s in Family Therapy from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. She has worked with notable Houston family service agencies, in school settings, and private practice. When not helping others, Denise enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends, especially her husband, their two sons, and their dogs.
